How to Set up a Virtual Private Network?

You already know what is a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and how it works to protect your data by using encryption techniques, and provides you a safe passage through a secure tunnel while keeping you anonymous over the internet. Now is the time that you learn how to setup a VPN on your own computer system.

Setting up a VPN connection is not a big deal by the way. It is just as easy as you can imagine.  There is one thing to remember, though. Each operating system offers a unique set of options to set up a VPN. Therefore, there can be a slight change of options that you need to check or uncheck during the setup process. You will have to select the type of protocol that you need to set up a VPN connection. You can select from PPTP, L2TP, SSTP, and IKev6 etc.

In this step-by-step guide cum blog, I will educate you about setting up a VPN connection on a Windows 7 client. So get ready.

Step 1: Jot down your IP address. It’s your computer identity so remember it like you remember your name or maybe just save it somewhere safe.

Step 2: Open your ‘Control Panel’ and select ‘Network and Sharing Centre’ under ‘Internet and Network’ menu. Select “Set up a connection” and ‘connect to the workplace.’

Step 3: Now the system will ask you for some details including username, password your IP address, put in the desired information and hit connect.

Now surf the internet like a free bird you are, because you are as hidden and secret as KFC’s fried chicken recipe!
